Why I built this site ...
I've built models in Excel for many years, with and without VBA, and I've amazed by the lack of resources on the internet to help people learn to do it well. So I thought I'd help out.
This site covers 4 areas of modelling.
Professional presentation - how to modify the Excel default settings
You can dramatically improve the look of worksheets, tables and charts, because Excel gives you a lot of control over colour and style settings, if you know where to look.
Managing complexity
I find that the complexity of Excel spreadsheets increases much faster than the complexity of the problem I am modelling. So I've developed techniques for reducing complexity, which include structural templates and automation techniques. .
Power tools
I've collected a library of useful tools and tips, which I'd like to share with you.
My best stuff? Unquestionably, the three items under Project templates on the menu at left.
Finally...
This site is not a textbook, so it isn't exhaustive. I've focussed on some areas more than others, depending on where my work and interests have taken me.
You can freely use everything you find on this site. I believe in sharing ideas.
Note: Where possible, I've attributed ideas to the people who thought of them. If I have missed someone or made a mistake, please let me know.
