I tend to think in layers and am fascinated by the blend of the traditional and the new. I am inspired by colour and texture and the world around me and love to abstract from it and weave different aspects together to produce an integrated idea, view or statement. Most of my artworks are drawings, acrylic or mixed media paintings, photographs or digital art. The latter allows me to mix my media even more by combining my paintings, drawings and photographs and work with my light pen producing digital prints (often limited edition) thus bringing together different strands of my life (computing background and love of art and photography).
I have a digital camera and love to take photos, hundreds of photos. Some of them that I find "interesting" (or think that I can turn into something else) I manipulate on the computer, particularly flowers, birds and abstracts from nature - some of the shapes and colours are fascinating. I have a graphics tablet (light pen) so I can draw on the images on the computer. I have setup a series of small prints called "Floral Fantasies" and plan to do other series called "Bird-Brained" and "Patterns In Nature"
In 2004 I started
photographing some of my life drawings and abstracting from them on the computer
- these series of digital prints are called
"Abstracts from Life".
These days I am into combining my paintings and/or drawings with my photos and light pen work; digitally creating what I call multi-images - I then get these printed, generally 20 x 30inch prints on Kodak "Endura" Lustre paper which I then put in simple white frames. They look very "contemporary" - well I think so and everyone says so! I sort of figure that my digital art brings together several strands of my life - love of art and photography and IT background, something that is uniquely me; I am getting more and more into it. I love to take an idea or concept and use my various images to sort of weave a story together.
