What is a dial-up connection?

In the Internet world, there are two main types of Internet access connections: dial-up and dedicated. A dial-up connection uses a standard modem to let you "dial-up" to your ISP each time you want to connect to the Internet. At the conclusion of a session, you "disconnect" from the Internet. Dial-up connections are normally 1:1 (one connection per computer), typically over a standard analogue telephone line, and serve the purpose of providing "as needed" Internet access for surfing, email, file transfer, etc.

Spam, Virus and offensive content filtering
Optional filtering packages are available with all West Australian Networks accounts. There are two levels of protection Essential @ $49.95 Inc GST per mailbox per year and Premium @ $99.00 Inc GST per mailbox per year.

All plans are subject to our Acceptable use policy (AUP)

All unlimited accounts are subject to "Soft Limits" or minimum single session times as indicated in the minimum connection time column. You will not be disconnected inside this period by us except where a fault condition or system maintenance is required. Details of these outages are sent to our network status mailing list. As with all our accounts you are also bound by the terms and conditions detailed in our acceptable Use Policy (AUP)

Unlimited time accounts are not permanent connection accounts. Constantly redialing in an attempt to turn you cheap unlimited account into a permanent connection will result in cancellation of your account. If a permanent connection is required then you select a plan from our permanent section below.

No Disconnection
You can use the internet for as long as you like, as often as you like. For your safety, we have enabled an Idle timeout system. If there is no internet usage from your connection for a period exceeding 30 minutes (and that is quite hard to do, not a single packet of information in either direction), the system will disconnect your connection. This ensures that if your computer is unattended for a period of time, unauthorised persons will not be able to use your connection. You may reconnect immediately if you wish.
